Enmeshment: When Close Becomes Too Close

What It's All About

This week we are breaking down enmeshment, and what it means when a family is too close. The fact of the matter is that enmeshment is a tool used by many toxic and abusive families. This behavior allows them to project a close and caring structure, but that's hardly the case behind closed doors. We'll explore that in this week's episode, as well as what we can do to recover from the affects of enmeshment in childhood.

There are a lot of consequences for those who are raised under the thumb of an enmeshed family. Lacking in autonomy and respect, you never learn how to set boundaries or stand up for yourself in any real way. This snowballs into toxic intimate relationships in adulthood, as well as an inability (and an unwillingness) to show up for yourself in those moments which matter most. To get the life you want, you must learn how to stand on your own and create space in the name of your needs and authenticity.
